I received the following, which I find hard to believe for some reason, and am at loss of what to do.
Your email address was in my address book hence the following should
My computer has received a virus since you are in my address book, there
is a good chance you will find this virus in your computer too. The virus
(called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAcAfee antivirus
system (which I have, which did not stop it). This supposedly sits
quietly for 14 days before damaging the system.
It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book, whether
or not you sent email to your ontacts. I checked my computer and found
it here. Here's how to check the virus and how to get rid of it:
YOU MUST DO THIS:
1. Go to Start, Find or Search option.
2. In the folder option, type the name jdbgmgr.exe
3. Be sure you search your C: drive and all subfolders and any other
drives you may have
4. Click "find now"
5. The virus has a Teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT
6. Go to Edit(on the menu bar) and choose "Select All" to highlight
thefile without opening it.
7. Now go to File (on the menu bar) and select Delete. It will then
go to the Recycle Bin. Then click on "Empty Recycle Bin".
8. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR
ADDRESS BOOK, SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THIER OWN ADDRESS BOOKS.
9. To do this:
a) Open a new email message
b) Click the icon of the address book next to the "TO"
c) Highlight every name and add to "BCC"(which means blind copy)
d) Copy this message and paste to email
e) Send the message.
Of course, I found the little bear, but I thought, isn’t it possible that the “virus” could be just to get us to delete something important? Has anyone else gotten this message? Or does anyone have any advice on whether I should ignore it or follow the instructions?
I do not wish to harm my computer.
Finally! Finished the first scene of the first part of my pride and joy wee story. I cannot believe it took such a long time. I am so very pleased that is over with at long last. It was fun, but that fucker took a lot out of me.
Now, I don’t know about its quality, but the first draft is there, at least.
I think I will have a much better time with it now that that section is out of the way. I have a feeling I may have taken it quickly, introduced too much information at one time. But! I shall see.
I really have awful luck with the betas on the veela-inc list. I write to them all friendly-like. They write back all-friendly-like.
Everything is friendly. I ask for a beta, the beta accepts and gives an approximate turnaround time, and says “Send it on down!” So, I do.
Then I never hear from them again. It’s happened twice—or thrice? I don’t recall, since it was so long ago.
I wrote back to one, asking (all friendly-like) what the deal was. Were they alive and well? No reply.
No more veela-inc betas. I have five stories sitting on my computer, never been posted anywhere.
I don’t like the word “boobies” anyway. It’s disgusting. :D
